“Urgent Action to Save Coral Reefs from Extinction” an ICRI presentation during Monaco Ocean Week

DR

During Monaco Ocean Week, ICRI hosted a special breakfast event about coral reefs. The event brought together more than 50 participants and recalled the main objectives of the ICRI 2018-2020 action plan, which was also adopted in December 2018 during the 33rd ICRI General Meeting in Monaco, also endorsed recently at the 4th Assembly of Nations for the Environment and in particular:

  • Preparation of recommendations for member states to the Convention on Biological Diversity concerning a new target for the preservation of coral reefs from 2020. It responds to the urgent need to act and save the reefs threatened by a large decline scale by 2050.
  • The production of a report on the state of health of coral reefs worldwide for 2020.

This meeting was an opportunity to recall the involvement of ICRI in the Coral Reef Community of Ocean Action co-chairs with the UN Environment. And present the results of projects co-financed by the Prince’s Government to promote the resilience of coral reefs and associated ecosystems.
