The third general meeting of the Mexico-United States ICRI Secretariat was held from the 20-23rd April, 2009 in Phuket, Thailand. The meeting was co-chaired by Ernesto Enkerlin, Mexico and Christine Dawson, United States of America.

The General Meeting welcomed the Wildlife Conservation Society as an ICRI member organisation. A total of 61 participants attended the ICRI General Meeting. 16 countries were represented and 33 organisations. Nine apologies were received. 33 ICRI members participated in the GM, 28 of which were represented by a nominated focal point.

A total of 4 recommendations and resolutions were adopted by the ICRI General Meeting on the issues of:

  1. Recommendation on Continuing Coral Reef Awareness Efforts
  2. Recommendation on Invasive Alien Species
  3. Resolution on Coral Disease
  4. Resolution on ITMEMS 4

During a hand-over ceremony, the General Meeting welcomed France as the incoming co-host of the ICRI Secretariat for the 2009-2011 biennium. France shared an early draft of their Secretariat Action Plan, which will be posted to the ICRIForum for further opportunity to review and comment in lead-up to the next ICRI General Meeting.

A particular note of thanks was made to Ambassador Laurent Bili, Ambassador of France to Thailand, for addressing the meeting. The new and improved ICRIForum was launched during the General Meeting. The new format not only demonstrates an easy-to-navigate site but has an improved design to enable all speeds of internet connection to access the materials.

The next General Meeting will take place in January 2010 in Monaco, under the incoming Secretariat.
