General Information
The Governments of the Japan and the Republic of Palau, as co-hosts of the International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI) Secretariat, in conjunction with the UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre, are pleased to announce that the first General Meeting of the incoming secretariat will be held in Koror, Palau.
Further details to assist participants in making preparations to attend this meeting will be announced in the near future. Please be advised that participants are asked to make their own travel, accommodation and visa arrangements. Should you require a hard copy letter of invitation to arrange visas, please contact me at the email address given below. For more information, please contact Emily Corcoran at icri@unep-wcmc.org. Note: the 14th U.S. Coral Reef Task Force meeting will take place on 2 days, Saturday, November 5th and Monday, November 7th. Thus, the USCRTF intend to provide opportunities on Thursday, November 3rd for ICRI and CRTF members to meet, share ideas, lessons learned and discussion future plans and priorities.
Participants are responsible for making their own travel arrangements as well as booking of the hotel. You can book on-line, by fax, or by telephone for either Palau Royal Resort or Palasia Hotel Palau. When making reservations please state clearly that you are participating in the ICRI meeting, so as to be able to take advantage of the reduced prices being offered. In the event that you have difficulties communicating with the hotel, please contact abauman@palau-oerc.net. A decent number of rooms has been secured for ICRI participants, but if by any chance both hotels are full, you may have to search for other local hotels by yourself (visit Palau Visitors Authority for information: www.visit-palau.com/placestostay/index.cfm).
Airport Transfer: the airport transportation will be organized by the ICRI secretariat. Please make sure to provide arrival and departure dates and times to the secretariat.
There is an offer of up to 15% off if more than 10 people book through Continental Airlines, please let us know if you would like to take advantage of this offer so we can confirm we have at least 10 people Reservation Information - Call your professional travel agency or Continental Airlines MeetingWorks at 800-468-7022 and provide the Z Code ZQNF and Agreement Code UJ13DH. Travel agencies must list the Z Code in the Ticket Designator Box and Tour Code Box on the ticket. For reservation assistance outside the toll-free MeetingWorks dialing area, contact the local Continental Airlines Reservations Office. The travel dates must be between the 24th October and 9th November.
In order to make efforts to reduce the impact of our travel, we are encouraging participants of the ICRI General Meeting to offset the carbon emissions produced by travel to and from Palau. The costs associated with this are surprisingly small (for UK-Palau return the cost to offset the emissions is GBP40). For those who have not used offsetting before, the links below provided explanations on how to calculate offset costs for your journey and tell you about the types of projects you can support with the charges you pay. Think about using a small amount of the money saved on the Continental Airlines discount to offset your emissions!
No visas are required to visit Palau, however a return ticket is required to enter the country. A US$20 Airport tax is payable on departure.
Transportation will be provided from Palau Royal Resort (principal hotel) to the Ngarachamayong Cultural Centre (meeting venue) and back again each day.
A business centre is available at the hotel with internet capabilities and LAN connections at a cost of $4/hour. In addition, there are several internet cafes in downtown Koror. | ||||
